🇸🇮 Ivan Cankar: The Complete Plays prvič v angleščini prinaša vseh sedem dramskih del Ivana Cankarja, enega najpomembnejših slovenskih pisateljev in ključnega ustvarjalca slovenske moderne.
Zbirka vključuje drame:

Cankarjeva dramatika prepleta družbeno kritiko, psihološko poglobljenost, politično satiro in simbolizem. Njegovi liki so razpeti med ideali, oblastjo, moralnimi dilemami in osebnimi kompromisi, zaradi česar njegove drame pogosto primerjajo z deli Henrika Ibsena, Antona Čehova, Franza Kafke in Jamesa Joycea.
Poseben pomen zbirke je v tem, da gre za prvi celovit angleški prevod Cankarjeve dramatike. Projekt Cankar Goes West je nastal v sodelovanju med Prešernovim gledališčem Kranj in kanadsko gledališko skupino Crane Creations Theatre Company z namenom približati Cankarja mednarodnemu prostoru.
Pri prevodih je sodelovala mednarodna ekipa prevajalcev in urednikov, med njimi Michael Biggins, Jason Blake, Tina Mahkota in Tom Priestly.
Zbirka je pomemben kulturni projekt, ki Cankarja prvič celovito postavlja ob bok velikim evropskim dramatikom tudi v angleško govorečem prostoru.
🇬🇧 Ivan Cankar: The Complete Plays is a collection of seven full length plays: Romantic Souls, Jakob Ruda, For the Good of the Nation, King of Betajnova, Depravity in St.Florian Valley, The Lackeys, and Beautiful Vida by celebrated Slovenian playwright Ivan Cankar translated into English for the very first time.
Cankar’s seven play opus features large casts, complex themes, and thoughtful depictions of socioeconomic and political nuances within Slovenian society. To this day, Cankar’s plays are still among the most popular dramatic works in Slovenian theatres.
Ivan Cankar (1876 – 1918), playwright, essayist, poet and political activist, is regarded as the greatest writer in the Slovenian language. His work has been compared with the work of Henrik Ibsen, Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, Franz Kafka, and James Joyce. He is considered the father of modern Slovenian theatre and has had a major influence on almost all Slovenian playwrights thereafter.
The Complete Plays of Ivan Cankar have been translated by Michael Biggins, Jason Blake, Alenka Blake, Rawley Grau, Tina Mahkota and Tom Priestly; edited by James Hyett; and designed by Aditi Sharma. The Complete Plays of Ivan Cankar is a collaboration between Presernovo Gledališče Kranj, a professional repertory theatre located in Kranj, Slovenia, and Crane Creations Theatre Company, a professional theatre company located in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada; and generously supported by the European Commission and the Slovenian Government.
